Housed in the former Royal Hospital School, the National Maritime Museum was created by the National Maritime Act of 1934, and formally opened on 27 April 1937. Since the image shows the presence of both the training ship Fame and the old school observatory (extreme right), both of which are understood to have been removed prior to the Museum’s opening, it presumably predates any conversion work.
