Other versions of the same image

The image predates the removal of the south-east chimney of Flamsteed House (1911), but postdates the addition of the crown to the Great Equatorial Dome (1908). Of the known images of the five or more that make up this series, several exist amongst known prints issued by the Royal Observatory. What is not known is who the photographer was or what the usage rights were. In the case of the image used for card No. 3, (this card), Paul Ditisheim credits the image in a 1926 publication to Charles Lacey, a Computer who worked at the Observatory in the 1890s. The same image however is credited to the Astronomer Royal by de Carle in his book, British Time, which was published in 1947. This typography of this particular version of the card is typical of the cards published by Richardson in the late 1920s.
