Unusually for Perkins, the card was published in halftone. The photograph on which it was based was entered in the Register of Proprietors of Copyright in Paintings, Drawings, and Photographs at Stationers’ Hall on 25 July 1891. William Wood Perkins is recorded as both the author of the work and the proprietor of copyright (National Archives: COPY1/405/125). It was also issued as a photographic postcard with no publisher's name and with the handwritten title 'Observatory, Greenwich Park' in the bottom left-hand corner
